A Vision to Understand What Makes Every Brain Unique
Mera Lord is the founder of the Brain DNA Institute, an independent researcher, author, and entrepreneur whose work explores individual differences in brain function, cognition, sensory experiences, learning, and emotional responses.
Beginning her research in 1982, Mera developed a longstanding interest in understanding why individuals think differently, learn differently, experience the world differently, and respond to life's challenges in their own unique ways.
In 2000, she introduced the concept of Brain DNA to describe her framework for exploring these individual differences. Her work is built around a central question: What if understanding how each individual brain operates could help us make more informed decisions about how we teach, communicate, nurture, and support personal development?
Through decades of independent, observational research, Mera has developed a framework that examines three central dimensions: Brain Type, Sensory System and Sensitivities, and Temperaments. The framework also considers the role of developmental experiences in shaping how individuals learn, think, feel, and respond.
Her vision is to make brain-health education more accessible and practical for people of all ages, helping parents, educators, coaches, and professionals explore individual differences and discover more personalized ways to support intellectual development and emotional well-being.
As the founder of the Brain DNA Institute, Mera is building an educational platform dedicated to translating her framework into workshops, training programs, learning resources, and professional development opportunities.
Her guiding philosophy is simple:
Every brain is different. Understanding those differences can open new possibilities for learning, growth, and well-being.
Professional Portfolio
1. Brain DNA — Founder and Framework Developer
Mera's central body of work is the Brain DNA framework, an approach she developed to explore individual differences in brain function and behavior.
The framework examines three dimensions:
- Brain Type: Thinking, information processing, and learning patterns.
- Sensory System: Sensory experiences, sensitivities, and responses to the environment.
- Temperaments: Individual patterns of responding to situations and challenges.
2. Brain Types and Individual Differences
Mera's framework identifies three proposed Brain Types:
- Structured — an emphasis on order, detail, and organization.
- Creative — an emphasis on associations, exploration, and possibilities.
- Active — an emphasis on activity, novelty, and varied stimulation.
The educational objective is to help people explore differences in learning and communication rather than assume one approach works for everyone.
3. Author and Thought Leader
Mera is the author of Brain DNA develops educational material exploring the brain, human differences, and the implications of understanding individual patterns.
Her broader work aims to encourage new questions about cognition, behavior, learning, and human potential.
4. Education and Professional Training
Through the Brain DNA Institute, Mera is developing educational programs for parents, schools, teachers, life coaches, and other professionals.
These initiatives include parent workshops, teacher education, Brain DNA Coach Certification training, educational resources, and practical tools for exploring individualized approaches to learning and personal development.
5. Research Development and Scientific Collaboration
Mera's long-term vision includes further investigation of the Brain DNA framework, development of assessment methods, evaluation of its proposed categories, and collaboration with academic researchers.
An important part of this work is establishing clear definitions, developing testable hypotheses, evaluating reliability and validity, and determining how the framework relates to existing neuroscience and neuropsychology research.
Our Founder’s Vision
Mera Lord envisions a future in which understanding individual brain differences becomes an accessible part of education, parenting, personal development, and brain-health awareness.
Through the Brain DNA Institute, she aims to build an educational community that empowers people to ask better questions, recognize individual needs, and explore more effective ways to support learning, communication, and emotional well-being.
Her vision extends beyond the classroom. It encompasses parents seeking to understand their children, adults seeking to understand themselves, educators looking for more responsive teaching approaches, and coaches seeking additional tools for supporting personal growth.
The mission is to move from a one-size-fits-all perspective toward a more individualized understanding of the human brain.
Every brain has a story. Understanding that story is where growth begins.
